Stereotyping might be the reason you are not finding someone to settle with

Nairobi - I will be the first to admit that my parents long ago came up with a list of where I should never marry from and they also had a list of the tribes that form the best spouses.
Then there is that list that the mother gave me that included my father’s tribes that I should never marry from. I don’t know what she was trying to say but I think we can all come up with a rude guess.
Kenya’s stereotyping is not something new and I doubt that it is something that is going to end any time soon with the old folks championing it.
‘Don’t marry from this tribe, they are like this and don’t interact with that one, they have a lot of witchcraft going on (sigh). Do you want to end up like so and so?’
Men from this tribe are not good but the best one’s are from that tribe. Then you are in Campus and you try to follow that advice and you realize that in real life you cannot quite apply it because societies change and so do mindsets. Someone is the complete opposite of what you expected and have been taught to believe. Hence why a lot of young folks are ending up in poor marriages and relationships; following their parents’ and society’s stereotyping.
And most do not know how to stand up for what they believe in or want so they will just pick so and so from their tribe because heaven forbid they graze on someone else’s lawn.
Your ideal might just be that person that you have been taught to never go near so what do you do in such a predicament? You do what your parents tell you to do. (That is sarcasm)
At the end of the day it is like you are being taught marrying a non-Kenyan is preferable than marrying a fellow Kenyan because everyone has a problem with everybody else. Best advice I would give is if you find what you want, be ready to stand up for it because it might not come in the packaging that everybody else wants.
