Speaker warns dormant MCAs

Nairobi - Members of Murang’a County Assembly (MCA) have been put on the spot for not being active and failure to participate in debates on Bills and Motions tabled before the House.
The Assembly Speaker, Nduati Kariuki has faulted the MCAs for being reluctant during the House Sessions thus making some motions to be passed without vigorous deliberations.
Nduati complained that most of MCAs are engaged into their personal businesses and failing to give matters of the Assembly priority.
He attested that motions are debated upon by few MCAs thus delaying solutions to petitions presented before the Assembly by members of the public.
“It is so humiliating to see a House Sessions last for less than 10 minutes and also the committees assigned various tasks keeps requesting for more time to complete a given assignments,” said the Speaker during the Thursday morning Session.
Visiting schools and other visitors, Nduati noted, miss a chance to learn the proceedings of the House as in most times there are no debates, saying the trend can make the students paint a bad picture of their County Assembly.
The Speaker challenged the Ward Reps to embrace sound debates and ensure active participation in House matters.
He urged them to shun laxity and be responsible in matters of development and in improving the people’s welfare by offering solutions through vigorous debates
