21 March 2016, 15:20
Nairobi - The National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi has called for restructuring of Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC).
Muturi said the anti-corruption body has been going out of its mandate and core business of dealing with economic crimes only.
He said the investigators in the commission should focus on economic crimes so that the money stolen can be recovered.
“I normally ask them, are you sure you are not biting more than you can chew? We want the commission to bring people to book; those accused of big scandals like NYS scam and even Goldenberg among others. This commission should either be structured or restructured,” Muturi said.

He noted that EACC has over 55 000 pending cases with less than 200 investigators who are not enough to do the work.
Muturi added that other minor cases of traffic receiving bribes on the road can be handled by other institutions like the police, office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and Judiciary.
He also lashed at the Judiciary for delaying the cases thT have been filed by the EACC, adding that Kenyans are yet to see any conclusion of a high profile case.
He was speaking at PCEA Church in Karatina town.
