Nairobi - Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko has turned down an offer to head back to his Ukambani
homeland and instead run for the Nairobi Governor’s seat.
Sonko is highly thought of by CORD Co principal Kalonzo
Musyoka who had called on the Senator to put his hat in the race to be Machakos
Governor in the 2017 General elections.
Sonko though is happy in the ruling Jubilee Coalition.
“Sonko is happy in Jubilee and wants to take on the Nairobi
Governor’s position which he is confident he will win,” a source close to the
flamboyant leader told News24.
“There has been talk of him moving back to Machakos. The
room is there and the offer still stands but he is not keen,” the source added.
Sonko is very popular in the Capital City and is keen to
dethrone incumbent Evans Kidero.
A move to his homeland will beckon in future but only if the finds the going tough in terms of dealing with Kidero.
