Nairobi - Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko has stopped the eviction of a 102 year old woman by a private developer from a piece of land in Nairobi.
The woman's house was demolished by the developer on 24 December in Pangani Nairobi and she was left in the cold to be housed by well wishers.
Monday, Sonko filed a petition at a court in Nairobi to stop the move by the developer of which he was granted a court order.
Tuesday, together with well wishers, Sonko presented the lady with a wheelchair and household items to keep her going whilst the case is ongoing in court.
Neighbours also came together to build the lady a temporary house in her predicament.
" Hannah Nzomo's house was flattened by bulldozers on Christmas Eve," he said on his Facebook page.
" Nzomo had lived since 1974 in the house that was destroyed by a "cursed, notorious and shameless land-grabber", he added.
" Goons hired by the grabber stole the woman's belongings. I have donated a wheelchair, food, items including sufurias, blankets and mattresses and building materials to help her get back on her feet," he continued.
" The developer has been restrained from evicting, excavating, entering, taking possession of or interfering with the land in any way, until the woman's case is heard and determined," he finished.
