Nairobi - An Al Shabaab militant has been shot and injured while trying to access a Kenya Defence Forces KDF camp in Garissa.
The operative was together with a fellow militant when the incident took place at the gate of the Garissa barracks.
When asked to declare who he was at the gate, the militant instead challenged the officers at the gate and a serious gunfight ensued as a result.
" The two men were challenged by KDF personnel at the gate and a fierce gunfight ensued," Military Spokesman LT David Obonyo told News24 on phone.
The other militant managed to escape, Obonyo stated.
Garissa has been on high alert following the death of 148 people at the nearby Garissa University College by Shabaab militants in April.
Obonyo further said that officers as well as other security agencies are keeping their eyes open as a result of the attack.
