Nairobi - Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko on Sunday recorded a statement with police at DCI headquarters over remarks that he was the acting President.
The Senator made the remarks on Friday at the funeral of former Kathiani MP, Wavinya Ndeti’s husband.
The Senator was captured on camera saying: “"Rais Uhuru is in Togo, Deputy President William Ruto is in France. I am number three in command politically influence-wise and socially… I am now the acting president of the republic of Kenya."
This prompted the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko to order police to arrest and interrogate him, but in mitigation, the Senator said the clip was edited accuses to tarnish his name based on his political inclination.
He further denied breaking the law or disrespecting the Presidency but promised to cooperate with police in the probe: "My remarks, sentiments which I made, that I am number three in command socially, politically and influence-wise. I never mentioned anything to do with our constitution."
In the evening, he however presented himself before the DCI on Sunday where he spent two hours.
