School closed over El nino rains

Isiolo - The ongoing El Nino rains have continued to cause havoc in various parts of Isiolo County with a health centre’s roof being ripped off and 100 households displaced after the Ewaso Nyiro River burst its banks.
In Ngaremara area, more than 50 households were displaced after the river burst its banks, flooding the area particularly Manyatta Zebra village.
The most affected is Merti sub-County where the roof of Merti Health Centre was ripped off by heavy downpour, while Mlanda Nur primary school had to close after its classrooms were submerged by the flooded river.

The affected villages include Godruppa, Ollagana, Kambi ya Juu and Chief Abkulla’s village which have been flooded and households displaced.
The chairman of Isiolo County El-Nino taskforce, Lordman Lekalkuli said the taskforce has dispatched a team to assess the damage and ensure intervention measures are taken by the County government.
Less than two weeks ago, strong winds destroyed two classrooms and several residential houses in the outskirts of Isiolo town.
Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds ripped off the rooves of two classrooms at St Kizito Public Primary School.
