Ruto dumps Sonko, takes on Waweru

Nairobi - Deputy President William Ruto has made a bold move in choosing his team for the 2017 General Elections, overlooking Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko and instead choosing Dagoretti MP Dennis Waweru.
Sources close to the DP have told News24 that Waweru has been chosen by Ruto as his lead man to seek votes in Nairobi ahead of the 2017 and 2022 polls.
The move will be a blow to Sonko and might be seen as showing that the DP supports ahead of the race for the Nairobi Governor’s race in the coming months.
“The DP sees Waweru as the main man in Nairobi and a trendsetter for the coming years. A real force,” the source told News24.
Waweru has been chosen ahead of Sonko weeks after the current Senator complained of bias towards Waweru and the other candidate Johnstone Sakaja by President Uhuru Kenyatta and the DP.
It remains to be seen whether the move will mean the end of Sonko’s reign in Nairobi, widely seen as untouchable just a few month ago.
