Nairobi - DP William Ruto says that he is ready for dialogue with the CORD Coalition.
The DP says that dialogue with the opposition over changes to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC will go on and must be viewed as a means to solve issues that have been raised in an amicable manner.
He said that threats and violence will not take the country anywhere.
" Threats and violence will not take the country anywhere. We must be sober and reflect on things openly and amicably," he said.
Ruto said the Government will adhere to the Constitution when
resolving any issues and urged the opposition to not employ protests and threats to coerce the Government.
“We are ready and willing to engage in talks. We want a coherent, logical and legal way to resolve any issue,” he said. We cannot resolve our problems through threats and intimidation. We have a Constitution that we should abide by,” added Ruto.
He said MPs should spearhead the talks that include views from
religious leaders, civil society, professionals and any other Kenyan.
“We have MPs who can sit and resolve this issue through
Constitutional means. Parliament should provide the forum for Kenyans to
speak their mind,” he said.
CORD has vowed to continue with protests until changes are made to the make up of the IEBC.
