REVEALED: Why Jubilee does not want CORD IEBC talks
04 June 2016, 18:13
Nairobi - The Jubilee Coalition has openly stated that it does not want talks on the IEBC to take place with CORD. But why?
It has been revealed that the real reason for the Jubilee Coalition refusing talks is that CORD are planning to include a number of proposals in the talks that are against the Jubilee make up.
Some of the proposals include that CORD wants Political parties to be allowed to choose the IEBC Commissioners themselves depending on the majority in Parliament.
At present, that is not the case.
Also, CORD wants the tenures of the IEBC commissioners to be temporary and that they be awarded on a fractured basis to stop all of them expiring at the same time.
" There are hidden agendas that you don not know that CORD want in the talks that Jubilee will not agree to," DP William Ruto said Thursday in Nairobi.
According to sources, knowledge of the extras is what has driven Ruto and his allies in the Jubilee Coalition to stay far away from the talks.
" CORD is not revealing what it wants and Jubilee knows, thus the long-standing lack of movement on the matter," an MP who wanted not to be named told News24.
CORD has already nominated a 5 member team to handle matters relating to the talks.
