Residents raise alarm over rising cases of land grab in Njoro

Nairobi - Residents of Piave village in Njoro Sub county on Monday held a peaceful demonstration following sale of two acre piece of land in which a community borehole has been sunk.
According to the residents, the land was sold by brokers last week and beacons erected in it and they have now appealed to the Nakuru CeC for Land Rachael Maina to come in and help solve the riddle concerning the rising cases of land grab.
The angry residents uprooted the beacons before putting up a “ land not for sale ” signage in the land.
They said that a prominent businessman who recently relocated to the area has started cultivating the land after he bought the land not aware that brokers had conned him off.
The residents said that the community borehole within the land has not been working for one year after power supply was disconnected owing to unpaid Shs300,000 bill.
They called on the county government of Nakuru to clear the bill or hand over management of the water project to the community.
They pointed out that if the borehole could be functioning, land brokers would not have found the opportunity to sell off the land.
