Nyeri - An armed robber has been lynched by members of the public at Kiriko village in Tetu, Nyeri, while his two colleagues managed to escape.
The three robbers had attempted to rob a shopkeeper who is said to be a former policeman serving at the General Service Unit (GSU).
Tetu OCPD, Stephen Obara said the shopkeeper and his wife suffered gunshot wounds and were rushed to Mathari Mission Hospital for treatment.
He said an automatic pistol, nine rounds of ammunition and three spent cartridges were recovered from the slain robber.

He said the robbers were riding on a motorbike and stopped at the shop posing as customers, but suddenly one pulled out a gun and ordered the shopkeeper to hand over the cash.
However, the man challenged the robbers while his wife raised alarm prompting residents and Administration Police officers to respond swiftly.
The residents stoned one suspect to death while his colleagues escaped on a motorbike firing in the air.
Obara said the recovered firearm had been stolen from a businessman last year and has been used in many robbery incidents within Nyeri.
He added that there were more firearms in the hands of criminal gangs noting that police will not relent in fighting robbers.
