Teachers at the school converged in staffroom and prayed together immediately after the release of the results, before addressing students.

The students were instructed to remain in their classes while studying for the better part of the day.

"Our target was to get over 300 plain As and as things look like, we may surpass it," Chavakali principal Indimuli Kahi said.

The school had 313 students who repeated last year.

Teachers at the school who did not wish to be mentioned revealed the school had a mean score of 11.25, although it did not want it publicised before they get the correct results.

At Keveye Girls high school, teachers and students remained in school without celebrating.

The School, which topped the county last year, got an initial mean score of 9.6.

The principal Judith Ngome said they were waiting for the exams council to give them the results before releasing them.

Other schools in Vihiga County that performed well included Senende High School 9.3, Mudasa Academy 9.6, Nyang'ori 9.25, Vokoli 8.25 and Tigoi 7.50.

Vihiga High School did not get all their results as it emerged that they had irregularities in Chemistry and Biology subjects.
