Raila's 2017 plans a waste of time, Duale says

08 January 2016, 12:21 William Korir

Nairobi - Aden Duale says he is not losing sleep over any plans hatched to kick him out of the Garissa Township seat by the CORD coalition in 2017.

The CORD coalition leader has hatched a plan to oust Duale, who is one of his biggest critics by fronting former Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim to contest the Garissa seat come 2017.

The move will put Duale's bid for re-election in jeopardy but according to the Majority Leader is not losing sleep over it.

" Everyone is free to contest for a seat in the country. That is nothing new and that does not mean Duale is worried," he said of Maalim's candidacy.

Duale and Raila are not seeing eye to eye and the CORD leader is confident that Maalim, a close confidant of his will help oust Duale who is a key ally of Deputy President William Ruto.

" Former Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim Mohammed left Nairobi early today for Garissa where he will declare his interest in Garissa Township Parliamentary seat currently held by Aden Duale following lengthy brainstorming with, among others, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed that ran into the dawn of New Year. Farah agreed to forgo Senate and Governor seat for Garissa and represent Garissa Township in the National Assembly. We are looking at an end of an era and beginning of another," CORD said of Maalim's decision in a statement.
