Raila to lead ODM in launching own newspaper

09 November 2015, 12:49 Dennis Omido

Nairobi - Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga will Monday lead his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in launching its own newspaper dubbed The Kenyan Weekly.

ODM’s Director of Communications, Philip Etale made the announcement of the official launch of the new newspaper in the market in a statement issued Monday.

“The ODM will this evening at 6:30pm launch a weekly newspaper in the market. The event will be held at the National Museums of Kenya, Mary Leakey Auditorium.

“ODM and CORD Leader Raila Odinga alongside his co-principals in the coalition and Members of Parliament and Senators will grace the occasion,” Etale said.

He said Raila is expected to address issues of press freedom during the launch of the newspaper.

“During the event, Odinga will dwell on the freedom of the press and information and why governments must respect these freedoms,” Etale said.

According to sources, the newspaper will be financed by Odinga and will be published every Friday to counter Jubilee government’s favouritism by main newspapers in Kenya.
