Nairobi - I left ODM despite Raila pleading to me to stay,a Nyanza MP has said.
Karachuonyo MP James Rege says that the ODM leader called on him to drop his ambition of leaving for Jubilee but that he turned it down because he was tired.
He says that the move to join Jubilee was something he had premeditated.
" I had to quit ODM because I was not guaranteed a fair chance of defending my seat during nominations and the party leader did not give me assurances that the process would be free and fair," he told News24.
He said that Raila had tried to convince him to stay in ODM but he felt that he needed to make the move to show Kenyans the ills within the party.
" It was time for me to step out and show the world that ODM has problems that need to be adressed," he added.
Rege might face a by-election if ODM does indeed forward his name for disciplinary action in the coming weeks for quitting his party but he says he is ready for any eventuality.
" If it happens then so be it. We will meet at the ballot," he insisted.
