Raila Eurobond lies chasing away investors, Rotich says

04 December 2015, 17:42 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Stop Eurobond lies, Treasury CS Henry Rotich has told CORD leader Raila Odinga.

The CS has insisted that the CORD leader is lying to Kenyans about the whereabouts of the KES 250 billion Eurobond taken by the government to fund development projects.

The CORD leader believes that as much as KES 100 billion of the funds is missing, while most of the remaining has been misappropriated.

Rotich though, speaking at his office Friday insists that it is not the case and that the CORD leader is peddling lies to Kenyans.

" No, there is no missing 140 billion. Of the 250 billion Eurobond money, 35 billion was spent in the 2013/14 financial year as commercial financing," he said.

" The remaining amount 140.5 billion from the initial sovereign bond and 75 billion from the tap sales were used in financial year 2014/15," he said at his office Friday.

" The funds have been fully accounted for and the Controller of Budget and Auditor General have independently confirmed this," he added.

He also turned the heat on Raila, accusing him of causing unrest amongst investors with his blatant lies.

"Those peddling lies should also be accountable. The issue is sensitive to investors and it is important to get the facts right. This is a clear misinterpretation of the fiscal accounts, that is why we invited people to come here and understand what has been taking place," he added.

Rotich had invited the CORD leader to his office to have a clear explanation of the accounts but Raila was having none of it, saying that Rotich should instead make the records clear to the public.
