Pregnant rhino killed at Ol Pejeta conservancy

Laikipia - A black rhino has been killed and its horns removed by armed poachers at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia County.
The body of the female rhino was discovered by Police reservist who patrolling the conservancy.
The conservancy communication manager, Elodie Sampere said the animal had a two-year-old calf which was found uninjured.

“She was about 12 months pregnant and had a two-year-old calf who was spotted alone and uninjured on the conservancy a few hours later. The calf is now being closely monitored by our team and will hopefully be reunited with other black rhinos in Ol Pejeta,” said Sampere in a statement.
She said they have already alerted Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers and police who have launched a massive search for the assailants.
She noted that two suspects have been apprehended and are in police custody as investigations continue.
