Busia - Busia County Commissioner has blamed unnamed politicians for the increasing number of businesses dealing in contraband goods in the region.
Speaking at a press briefing, Mwongo
Chimwanga said some influential politicians are facilitating trade in illicit
goods especially at the Malaba and Busia border points.
“Commodities such as beer, cigarettes, illicit liquor, sugar and other
products are being smuggled into Kenya by young people on behalf of some
politicians. We want to warn them that their days are numbered,” he said.

“We are also telling the youths who are being used to facilitate this
illegal trade that they will face the full force of the law individually
when we catch up with them,” cautioned Chimwanga.
Police have been met with hostility in their crackdown against the illegal contraband business racket, with politicians allegedly linked to the business inciting the youth to fight back.
