Police were not aware of fatal Strathmore terror drill

Nairobi - Police have blamed Strathmore University for a failed terror drill which saw one member of staff killed and 30 others injured.
The drill which took place at the University premises Monday saw scared students and staff scamper for safety.
The University claimed that it had informed the Lang'ata Police Station officers, who used live ammunition and hooded commandos to try as much as possible to authenticate the attack.
Some jumped from as high as the third floor to secure safety, a move which caused the death of a member of the subordinate staff at the University.
Police spokesperson Charles Owino however states that the University made a mistake of note informing the central government as well as Police headquarters of the drill.
" We were not informed and the University must explain why it pulled off such a drill without informing us," he said Tuesday in Nairobi.
" Strathmore University should have coordinated with the Interior ministry and the government," he added.
The University defended itself of blame attached to the drill, saying it had informed students of the impending drill.
It also stated that it would take care of any financial implications of the drill.
