Police to focus on self protection during riots

Nairobi - Police officers have been asked to protect each other during riots as they engage with insurgents, their spokesman Charles Owino has said.
Owino noted that police will be forced to use live bullets to any protester who threaten police officers.
“A police officer also has a life and he should protect his life first. Anybody threatening a police officer will not be spared and will be dealt with accordingly,” said Owino.

He also urged the officers from both the Kenya Police Service and Administration Police to work together.
“Stop undermining each other because we are here to serve the people. Work together and be happy officers in the service,” he added.
He explained that there were youths participating in demonstrations while armed, citing the anti-IEBC demonstrations in Siaya where some youths were using catapults.
“It must be understood that police have personal lives to protect,” Owino said.
