Nairobi - Police have killed three men accused of being kidnappers and rescued a woman they had taken hostage in Nairobi's Ruaraka estate.
The woman was rescued Tuesday unharmed in the 3 PM operation that saw police recover a pistol and personal effects that were allegedly stolen, from the deceased suspects.
Starehe OCPD Alice Kimeli said that the woman was kidnapped after arriving in the city from Mumias where she owns a business. She had come to the city to pick up some goods.
" The woman is a businesswoman and is a frequent visitor to Nairobi where she picks goods for her business in Mumias. She had come to Nairobi on Monday when she was confronted and kidnapped on the streets by the gang who seem to have known her," she told News24.
The family had been asked to deliver KES 400,000 to secure her release, which they sent to the attackers in a bank account but informed Police.
" When she arrived on Monday, she was taken hostage by seven men who later called her family demanding a ransom of KES 400,000 before they could release her,” Kimeli said.
Police say that they have already taken steps to have the accounts frozen and the money retrieved from the said bank account.
