Police investigating woman who died at her secret lover's house

Vihiga - Police in Vihiga County are investigating death of a 35-year-old woman who died at her secret lover’s house at Ikumba in Central Maragoli Ward.
Margaret Chebet, who is married in a neighbouring village, died in the house of Omar Kinya.
Kinya, 47, told police that he left his house at 10am on Saturday night for work and left it was locked, but returned later at 10pm to find the lifeless body of the woman inside.
He reported the incident at the neighbouring Vihiga Police Station.

"Police immediately visited the scene and found the woman was lying on the bed, dead," Vihiga OCS Judith Nyongesa said.
Nyongesa indicated the deceased did not show any signs of physical injuries, but was just asleep on bed.
She further revealed that initial investigations indicated she was frequently engaging in binge drinking.
"Kinya revealed she was on some medication, but was still drinking excessively," Nyongesa said.

She further said Kinya indicated Chebet was not his wife, but they were just friends and she had a spare key for his house.
She said so far, family members of the deceased have not shown up to claim the body or give any information regarding her.
She added that they had not yet arrested Kinya, but were waiting for the post-mortem to offer direction.
"We are waiting for the family of the deceased to come so that we can conduct post-mortem and take necessary action later on," she said.
