Police hunt killer gang for killing Mombasa tycoon

Mombasa - Police in Mombasa are searching for Motor -bike riding gunmen who shot and killed a Mombasa businessman of Asian Origin as he entered his estate home at Nyali Mkomani area Mombasa County.
Gangsters on motorbikes has now become a common element of accounts of crime incidents in Mombasa and its environs with businesses such as fuel stations, Mobile Money transfer- M-Pesa being the main targets.
Alpesh Shah of Fabritex Company met his death at the entrance of Amer Villas estate when three armed gunmen on a Motor- Bike invaded and shot him several times as neighbors watched in horror in a 7.30 pm incident.
According to Jimson Security guard Odhiambo Joseph who mans the estate, he said the business man who runs chains of multimillion shops in Mombasa was returning from work alone in his car when the incident happened as he waited the gate to be opened by the guard on duty.
“I only know him as a businessman who runs family businesses in town, everyday he leaves the house alone and returns alone, he has never reported to us of having received any security threats before, ”said Odhiambo.
The man was however rushed to hospital and succumbed to injuries and died as he awaited treatment at the Nyali Health care a case which police are also investigating after its alleged that the doctor on duty refused o attend to the patient.
It is however said the three armed men fired on the air before they escaped toward the main Nyali Road.
Another neighbor identified as Everlyne Nekesa said the late that stays with his family at the residential home died as he was rushed to the nearby hospital after him suffering serious bullet injuries in his chest and head.
“He stays with his family inside but when the incident happed he was alone in the car, he had drove from work but it was unfortunately that he lost his life just meters to his house, “said Nekesa.
Confirming the incidence Mombasa county commissioner Maalim Mohammed said Criminals have infiltrated the boda boda business and are using it as a ruse to commit serious crimes including murder and robbery in daylight.
Addressing a security stakeholders meeting at a Mombasa hotel, the County Commissioner revealed that already the tourism and hotel industry in Mombasa was illing due to insecurity, something he said the government was much concerned about a\nd keen on.
“We know that there are over 20 criminal gangs in this county including the Wakali wao, Wakali Kwanza and The Kapenguria , we don’t know why they are calling themselves the Kapenguria , but we have profiled them and now we are deploying our security officers in those areas the gangs operate to deal with them thoroughly “ Maalim told the gathering.
The trend has however caused alarm within security agencies, as the gangsters use the fast and manoeuvrable motorcycles to escape from crime scenes.
Police said an investigation is ongoing to establish the motive of the attack which appears to be similar to other crimes conducted by men riding in a motor bike in Mombasa Likoni area with several M-Pesa shops robbed on day light.
However the Motor-Bike riding gunmen linked with series of attacks are yet to be arrested though investigations are ongoing.
