Nyeri - Nyeri police have arrested a man suspected to be a fake lawyer at Narumoru Township, Kieni East sub-county.
The man identified as Macharia Munene was allegedly masquerading as an advocate of High Court and had opened an office in the Township.
“He has been arrested by a special team of officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID),” said a lawyer who sought anonymity.
The lawyer said the suspect was nabbed on intervention by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) following complaints by its Nyeri chapter and also by members of the public.
The suspect was escorted to Nyeri Central Police station awaiting court trial.
Last year another Nyeri lawyer was on the spot for being an imposter.
Nyeri Chief Magistrate John Oyiengo issued a warrant of arrest against Moses Kahiga Mungai alias Samuel for failure to appear in court despite been summoned.
Kahiga was allegedly practicing as a lawyer and a state counsel since year 2011 without a Law Society of Kenya (LSK) certificate.
He was allegedly using an LSK admission number and certificate of a Meru based state counsel, Samuel Kahiga Mungai.
The court further directed that the latter record statement with police on why Kahiga was ‘masquerading in his name’.
Kahiga’s real identity was unmasked by his Nyeri colleagues led by lawyer Muthui Kimani who alleged that Kahiga did not graduate from Moi University School of law
