Nairobi - The government has officially written to Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho revoking his firearm license. View letter here.
The government, through the chief firearm licensing officer Samuel Kimaru has ordered Joho to return his firearm over what is says is misuse of firearms.
The case in study is not named by the government.
The Governor, who had earlier in the week been left without any bodyguards after the government recalled his team of 5 guards stated that he had been called by the government and asked to take his firearm to the nearest Police Station.
" Mr. Kimaru the Chief Licensing Officer of Firearms has called me to return my licensed firearm," Joho said Thursday night.
" He has requested me to do it immediately and I have refused and asked them to send official communication on the same," he added.
Joho has so far yet to return the firearms and it remains to be seen what will take place next.
Opposition leaders have already protested the move and have stated that they will not shy away from starting public protests over the issue.
" We will not allow intimidation by a government drunk with power," CORD co principal Kalonzo Musyoka sad Friday.
