Pay teachers September salaries, Uhuru says
11 November 2015, 16:18
Nairobi - Teachers should be paid their September salaries, President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked the Teachers Service Commision.
Speaking to teachers unions leaders, the President insisted that the plight of teachers in the country must be addressed.
He insisted that the government had not sidelined teachers and that there was need for the public wage bill to be adressed and teachers slotted in within a working formula.
" The President stated that teachers be paid their salaries for September and that he would actively push for it," KNUT Chairman Mudzo Nzili told News24.
TSC had said it would not pay teachers for missing 5 weeks of the current term whilst they were on strike over an unpaid 50/60% pay increase.
Uhuru though, was open to the idea of teachers getting their pay.
The payrise was recently shot down by the Court of Appeal.
