Panic as Sossion threatens to quit KNUT

12 November 2015, 16:55 William Korir

Nairobi - Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion has threatened to quit the teachers union, causing panic within the organization.

It is understood that the KNUT boss has been left disillusioned since the recent failure to help teachers get a 50/60% payrise and thus the reason why he has missed out on recent advances by the government to try mend fences with the teachers union.

A recent visit by the unions to State House for talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta saw Sossion miss out, which he did intentionally.

" He missed it intentionally," a source at the KNUT headquarters told News24.

The meeting was attended by KNUT chairman Mudzo Nzili and he was hard pressed to explain Sossion's whereabouts.

" He knows where he was and you should ask him," he said.

" What is certain is that he missed despite being invited for the meeting," he added.

Sossion when asked to comment on the matter said that he was not on duty at that point and that he was also not invited.

" I was not invited and I am also off duty. I am tired of what has been going on at KNUT. I am thinking about my future," he stated Thursday.

Whatever he means by future is up for debate.

KNUT sources also state that Sossion was against the meeting with the President, saying that any moves by the government right now were not honest.

" He is angered by the meeting as well as what he perceives as dishonesty from the government," the source added.

Sossion is very popular with teachers and his perceived exit will likely cause heartache for majority of teachers who like his passion and demeanour.
