Nairobi - Residents of Gathima-ini village, Othaya Nyeri County, have called for assistance after high mosquito attacks that have made their lives difficult.
The over 200 residents residing near Chinga Dam decried of having difficult times trying to control the mosquitoes that breeds in the dam.
They said they have been incurring huge financial losses seeking treatment and purchasing mosquito nets that remained hanged inside their bedrooms and living rooms.
Caroline Wangari, a resident, said that she has been spending a lot by periodically buying mosquito nets for her family of four while each costs KES 600.
Wangari pleaded with the government to provide them with free nets and make an effort of spraying the area in order to control the insects.
Another resident, David Wamiti, said that he only uses a piece of cloth to cover up his head to prevent mosquito bites as he cannot afford a net.
The residents also claimed that the dam has not been of help to them saying that it benefits their neighbours from Mukurweini sub-county who use the water for both domestic and farming purposes.
