Opposition wants DP Ruto probed over source of his millions

25 November 2015, 09:36 Philomena Chebet

Nairobi - Cord Co-principal Moses Wetang'ula wants a lifestyle audit of Deputy President William Ruto carried out to ascertain the source of the cash he regularly donates in fundraising.

The Bungoma Senator, who spoke at press conference Tuesday questioned the source of the cash Ruto dishes out weekly and said a probe must be carried out.

“President Kenyatta must carry out a lifestyle audit of his Deputy William Ruto. Even if he owns Barclays Bank or Kenya Commercial Bank, you can’t dish out money like he does and raise KES 25 Million or KES 30 million like he does at church functions each week,” said the Ford Kenya party leader.

Wiper leader and Cord Co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka echoed similar sentiments and appealed to the Kenyan churches to refuse the huge donations given by Jubilee leaders, noting that they are proceeds of corruption.

“If we want to win the war on corruption, we want to call on the Kenyan church leaders to question the legitimacy of the sources of the huge sums of money donated by leaders allied to the ruling Jubilee government,” he said.

Cord coalition leader Raila Odinga who reacted to Monday’s state of the nation address by President Uhuru Kenyatta was present at the press briefing that took place at Serena Hotel.

Other leaders present at the press briefing included Senators James Orengo(Siaya), Johnstone Muthama(Machakos), Elizabeth Ongoro and MPs John Mbadi among others.
