Nairobi - Supporters of the Orange Democratic Movement ODM caused a huge traffic snarl-up in the Nairobi Central Business District as they made their way to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision IEBC offices.
The close to 500 supporters who were accompanying CORD leader Raila Odinga and others to the IEBC offices on Anniversary Towers in Nairobi caused the snarl-up as they walked on the roads and stopped motorists from moving.
They were however peaceful as they sung victory songs.
CORD is presenting 1.4 million signatures to the IEBC to push for a referendum to seek change to the Constitution.
" They are peaceful but however, we have police on standby," head of the Central Police Station Paul Wanjama told News24.
CORD is hoping to push through the referendum to seek changes to electoral processes, lifting of the amount of money sent out for Devolution as well as several other matters they feel need changes.
After the IEBC takes the signatures and verifies them, it will allow CORD to proceed and file the Referendum Bill in the County Assemblies.
