Nairobi - ODM is sending senior politicians to Kisii to spearhead campaigns for a ward seat, indications that they are not taking the Jubilee Party lightly in the region.
According to party sources, the Nyacheki Ward by election will see senior politicians traverse the ward to seek ODM's re-election.
The election has been forced through by the passing of former MCA Peter Ongeri.
The election will be held October 26.
Party leader Raila Odinga will be in the ward for a series of rallies next week, as will senior politicians Hassan Joho and Evans Kidero, the Mombasa and Nairobi Governor's respectively.
Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong'o as well as ODM chairman John Mbadi are also on the line-up as are Kisii politicians elected via ODM.
" It is a big deal. It will be a marker for 2017," Mbadi told News24 when contacted.
ODM is supporting Naftal Onkoba and will take on the Jubilee Party's Maxwell Magoma.
" The results of the elections will be a pointer towards what is to be expected in the region come 2017, so it is vital for us," Mbadi continued.
ODM is looking to consolidate in Kisii, following concerted efforts by the Jubilee Party in recent times to cut into their advantage.
