ODM MP reveals why he defected to Jubilee

Nairobi - Mathare MP, Stephen Kariuki has revealed why he ditched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for Jubilee.
Speaking in Nairobi days after ODM held a rally in his home turf following his defection, Kariuki said he is not afraid of going to a by-election to defend his seat on a Jubilee ticket.
“I am totally not afraid of going to a by election and if it gets to that, I am willing to stand by Jubilee and defend my seat on a Jubilee ticket,” the MP said.
According to Kariuki, he left ODM because of the party’s policies and some differences he claims to have emanated within the party especially during his nomination in the 2013 polls.

“I left ODM because of the policies of the party and some differences within the party. As long as you are an independent thinker in ODM then you have no room. As long as you are not a sycophant, or you don’t do things in a certain way that is preferred by the party’s leadership you still have no room.
“We had differences during my nomination and even had to use other parties to negotiate on my behalf after my win was nullified,” Kariuki said.
ODM has already written to 13 members of the party who have publicly declared their defection to Jubilee to explain why they should not be de-registered from the party.
According to the party, the 13 politicians are expected to respond in writing within seven days failure to which they will be expelled from the party for violating its law and the constitution of Kenya.
