Vihiga - Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader and Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya has dismissed leaders claiming to speak on behalf of Luhyas.
Oparanya dismissed recent statement by Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba that the region had decided to speak in one voice.
"If people say they are speaking for Luhyas...which Luhyas have decided, and in which meeting that Oparanya didn't attend? I don't see anyone else here among us who is more equal to the task for the Presidency other than Raila," he said.

Oparanya, who welcomed Cord leader Raila Odinga to start his official five-day tour of western region said recent shake ups in the party are just normal and dismissed leaders regrouping in disguise of Luhya unity.
He said Luhyas were not yet prepared for the Presidency, and should rally behind Raila to ensure a first round win in next year’s General Elections.
He urged leaders from the region not to fight to be part of government, but instead struggle to be the government through ODM.
“We have seen other leaders rushing to be included in the Jubilee government. That cannot help this region. We want our people to be the government next year,” he said.
