Nyeri woman killed by her estranged boyfriend

Nyeri - A middle-aged woman has been stabbed to death in Thuthwa village, Mathira in Nyeri County by her estranged lover who later attempted to commit suicide.
The 35-year-old woman, Winrose Gathoni, was stabbed with a knife that was still lodged on her throat by the time her lifeless body was being picked from the murder scene to the morgue by police officers.
The suspected murderer, Samuel Kiberenge, 40, had indicated in his suicide notes that Gathoni was flirting around with other men.
He also stressed on how much he has supported the woman in many ways including her financial needs that he claimed he has managed to sustain through borrowing from financial institutions.
According to neighbours, the two have been in a love relationship for one and half years now.
The suspect was however apprehended by police and residents before he could escape after allegedly committed the crime.
A section of the agitated and angry locals later rushed to Kiberenge’s home and set a blaze his house but the fire was put out before destruction was made.
A Nyumba Kumi member, George Muriithi narrated how they heard screams emanating from the plot where Gathoni was living and operating salon but found her dead.
The suspect was escorted to Karatina police station while the body of the deceased was taken to Karatina District Hospital mortuary
