Nyeri thieves devise new tactic of robbing victims

14 October 2016, 11:07 Ben Wangui

Nyeri - Thieves in Nyeri have now devised a new tactic of robbing their victims.

The thieves have now resorted to holding families hostage in their homes as their partners ransack the house.

So far, three families have suffered massive losses in the last few weeks after suspected thugs employed this tactic.

Using this new tactic, the thieves have ample time to sweep houses of their victims clean and some even have enough time to cook and eat before escaping with their loot.

One victim who lost house hold items and family car narrates: “They said hurting us was not part of their plan and even put down cushions for me to rest on. That was shocking.”

Police are yet to crack down on this new ring of robbers who are sending shivers on the area residents.

This comes days after reports emerged that criminal gangs in Kabarnet were using chloroform to induce sleep on their victims before breaking into their houses to rob them.

Residents who staged demos against the increased insecurity in the area however blamed the security agents for colluding with the gangs.

“Police are well connected with these people… The saddest thing is that when they raid your home, they sweep it clean,” lamented a resident who requested anonymity.
