Nyeri - A group of squatters has been camping outside Sagana State Lodge seeking audience with President Uhuru Kenyatta over resettlement.
The squatters including old women and children drawn from Iruri and Kiamariga villages in Mathira constituency said they want the President to resettle them.
Micheal Mari, a squatter, said local leaders and successive governments have been promising them resettlement from the colonial villages but they were yet to be given land.
“We live in colonial villages and we only get promises that we would be resettled but nothing has ever happened. A section of us were resettled at Solio while we were left out,” said Mari.

Another squatter, Nyaguthii Wandeto said they had hopes that the Head of State would address their plight.
“We saw choppers in the sky and noticed that he has arrived. We came running but we found he had already entered inside. We know he will listen to us and address our problems because they are genuine,” said Wandeto.
She lamented that the colonial villages were congested and there was no more space for more houses.
