Nyeri MCAs paid KES 3 million to impeach Governor Gachagua

14 August 2016, 09:32 Joseph Njung'eh

Nairobi - More than 30 Nyeri County Assembly members have been paid KES 3 million to impeach governor Nderitu Gachagua, reports have emerged.

Some nine MCAs alleged that the motion has been financially sponsored by a former area MP who is interested in the gubernatorial seat during 2017 elections.

Led by Chinga MCA Paul Ngiria, the MCAs who are allied to the governor said 33 of their colleagues have signed an impeachment motion set to be tabled in the County Assembly.

“We want to report that the Assembly is divided into two groups; those supporting Ephraim Maina and Nderitu Gachagua. The section of MCAs who have signed the impeachment have been funded to a tune of KES.3 million,” said Ngiria.

“He bankrolls them on regular basis and we distance ourselves from the alleged impeachment since its only meant to serve self-interests,” he added.

He demanded that the alleged sponsor to wait for elections and seek public support.

The MCAs are plotting to impeach the governor after he denied them opportunity to control development projects in their respective Wards.

They are also accusing the County boss of failing to implement development projects that they had proposed.

However, Mukurweini West Ward Representative, Bernard Mubea said his colleagues and the said sponsor want to paralyze the County and spark public outrage.

“The plan is to ensure nothing is happening in the County and that the budget is not implemented so that County Government workers do not get their salaries and hold demonstrations,” said Mubea.
