Nairobi - Kangemi slum is getting a serious facelift ahead of the visit to the country by Pope Francis.
With the Pope set to visit the slum and hold mass there, the government has already started making real their promises to lift the outlook of the area before the well publicized visit by the Pope arrives.
The Pope will be in the country November 25-27.
The roads in the area have been tarmacked, trenches dug and new lighting installed as the visit of one of the world's icons nears.
The national government has been directly involved in the preparations in coordination with the Nairobi County government.
" The preparations are ongoing and are in good shape. We are very confident that the Pope's visit will run very smoothly," Governor Evans Kidero told News24 on Monday.
The Pope will hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta on his arrival and will also hold mass at the University of Nairobi grounds as well as visit a number of local projects.
It will be his first official visit to Africa as Pope and will also visit Uganda and the Central Africa Republic during his stay.
