Nairobi - A Nation Newspaper Editor has been arrested for allegedly lying over a story in which Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery had been accused of overspending to the tune of KES 3.8 billion.
John Ngirachu was picked up by Flying Squad officers Tuesday afternoon and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department CID headquarters to write a statement.
Nkaissery accused the Daily Nation and other media outlets of spreading lies over the losses at the ministry, which he termed as fabrication, lies and insinuations.
The Daily Nation stated in a statement that it would stand with Ngirachu.
" Parliamentary editor John Ngirachu arrested by CID officers over story on Interior Ministry spending," they said in a statement.
Nkaissery was angered by the reports, saying that he would take action over the matter.
" The media cannot be allowed to report whatever they feel without reprise. There is need for such matters to be taken care of and be reported and action taken, Nkaissery stated.
