Nairobi - Jubilee youth wing affirmed that Narok was a Jubilee ‘zone’ and dismissed CORD ledaer Raila Odinga's claim that ODM was popular in the area.
Led by former URP national youth Coordinator Kasaine Ole Partoip and Warembo na UhuRuto Narok County Coordinator Mercy Chepkemoi, they said the newly formed party was offering an opportunity for the youth to vie for any elective seats without fear of being shortchanged as the nominations will be free and fair.
“It is in the Jubilee Party that youth for the first time will have the liberty to go for any seat from Governor, Senator, MP and MCA without thinking of being rigged.
Our President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured that the nominations will be done by IEBC and will be free and fair to all,” said Partoip.
They were speaking during the professionals meetings held at Kaplelach Primary School, Narok South constituency.
Chepkemoi said they have embarked on sensitizing women above the ages of 18 to take up Identification Cards and register as voters ahead of next year’s general election.
“For long now, our mothers and our sisters have been victims of being bribed by being given sugar by politicians to vote in their favour but what we are doing now is empowering them to elect an able leader based on his manifesto and not because he/she has given her something in exchange of votes,” said Chepkemoi.
Meanwhile, Professionals from Narok South constituency have accused the area MP Korei ole Lemein of not involving them in undertaking developments being funded by CDF.
Group chairman Dr Nahashon Langat and Abraham Kimutai, they said that the experts from various sectors should be involved in the CDF to ensure quality work.
“In order to ensure the CDF fund is spent in appropriate and the quality work is undertaken , the elites should be involved and come together so that the development projects are up to standards and the locals will feel the value of the money because it is their rights,” said Langat.
He also said that that said as a way of giving back to the society, the elites such as Engineers, Architects should be involved in construction of infrastructure funded by CDF.
“The area residents need to be empowered on the roles of legislator and their role in monitoring the projects,” he said.
Efforts to get comments from the legislator were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.
The elite called upon the youth to shun from being misused by politicians to cause chaos as the country prepares to elections.
He said that youth have a role to play in ensuring that development-oriented leaders are elected.
