Nakuru - After a string of killings targeting commercial sex workers in Nakuru, the sex workers have now vowed to arm themselves because police have failed to protect them.
Speaking Saturday in Nakuru town, the Kenya alliance if sex workers Nakuru chapter said they have instructed their members to arm themselves whenever they go with a client.
The alliance chairperson, Mary Wangari said that Nakuru sex workers cannot rely on the police to protect them.
"We as sex workers have suffered for long and since the police have failed to protect us, we have decided to protect ourselves from today," said Wangari.
"We have directed all sex workers to ensure that they have something they can use as defense when attacked even if it means carrying knifes and guns in our bags,"she added.
She lashed at police and the community for treating them as outcasts.
"The people killing us are known to the police and the society but they have decided to keep quiet just because some people think we are outcasts," she said.
