Naivasha GK prison goes without water, power for a week
21 April 2016, 07:26
Nakuru - The Naivasha GK prison is operating in darkness for one week now after Kenya Power disconnected power supply to the facility over unpaid bills amounting to millions of shillings.
The prison's senior officer, Patrick Mwenda said that Nairobi delayed to release the money that was to settle the bill hence the disconnection.
The power disconnection has also led to an acute water shortage in the corrective facility because water is pumped from boreholes using electricity.
"Kenya Power gave us a notice to pay the bill but we delayed and they disconnected us from the supply and this has affected other essential services in the prison like water supply because without power we cannot pump water from the borehole," said Mwenda.
He however said they are in talks with the electricity supplier to resolve the issue.
