'My man has to pay all the bills'
09 December 2015, 19:23
Nairobi - Imagine a scene where you and your man are play-fighting.
You punch him on the arm, so he does the same. You are having a good time; you
punch him in the face and he does the same but now you are not laughing because
it hurts. Do you get someone arrested or you accept the apology because he now
looks panicked. Or do you take advantage and ask for all those things you have
always wanted or threaten someone is going to jail for a day or two.
Chivalry or equality; you can rarely have both; you have to
choose one especially when you choose to be with someone.
You know, a lot of women are pretenders. Some like the
feminist flag until they actually get hit by it; then they cry foul. Over a
couple of years I have learnt that you can rarely if ever actually have both.
If you do, then do feel blessed.
You ask me, I do want chivalry more. Someone should pay for
the dates. Someone should handle the bills; the really big ones. I handle the
ones that I feel like handling and not because someone asked but out of the
goodness of my heart.
Equality. Hmmmn, equality is a bit tricky because you do not
want someone making you their laundry woman because you said you do not want
equality or excluding you from decisions because they are the ones that handle
everything else when it comes to taking care of things.
Between these two you should be able to tell if someone is
actually the person you want to spend the rest of your life dealing with. We
have a lot of chivalrous gentlemen but men who understand equality and how to
treat their partner as an equal? That is rare.
Someone who rubs his money in your face as an equality card
should definitely not be the one that you want to spend the rest of your life
with. A man who is able to talk to you before you hear about it from other
people is the one that you should pay more attention to.
