Mombasa - Chief Kadhi Ahmed Muhdhar has announced that Muslims will start fasting for the month of Ramadhan on Tuesday June 7, 2016.
Speaking during a telephone interview with a Mombasa-based Islamic radio, he said that the crescent has not been sighted yet.
However, source indicate that some Muslims begin fasting on Monday as the crescent has been sighted in other parts of the world including Kenya and Saudi Arabia.
According to Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), divisions during the sighting of the crescent are acceptable since one is supposed to fast upon sighting the crescent.
Fasting is practiced worldwide and is also one of the pillars of Islam.
Ramadhan falls on the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.
