Murang’a granny swept away by landslide

Nairobi - Tension has gripped residents of Gikira village in Kigumo, Murang’a County after an 80-year-old granny went missing following a landslide.
The woman is believed have been swept away by the landslide caused by ongoing heavy rainfall pounding various parts of the country.

Rescue mission headed by Red Cross Society officials has been launched in search of the old woman.
“The county government will provide three excavators to help clear the debris at the landslide site,” Governor Mwangi Wairia said after visiting the scene.
A feeder road heading to the village has also been closed after developing cracks.
Wairia reported that a committee has been formed to help the affected families.
The committee will be headed by area deputy county commissioner Moses Mbaruku and will fast track tracing of the woman and find solution to the disaster.
