Nakuru - A member of parliament wants all unmarried people to be barred from contesting for elective seats.
Kuresoi South Member of Parliament Zakayo Cheruiyot argues that singles lack leadership qualities and should therefore not contest for any political seat.
Speaking Thursday at Kapkoi Secondary school, Cheruiyot said that all aspirants in the 2017 general election should be compelled to show their spouses before being cleared to contest.

"Unmarried people cannot be trusted with leadership as they are likely to disappear immediately after being elected," he said.
Cheruiyot added that a family is the foundation for leadership, something he said makes married people good leaders.
"Married people have family responsibilities and this makes them better people to hold political offices because they know how to handle responsibilities," he said.
