MP issues KES 15 million bursary cheques, sponsors 200 students

16 February 2016, 16:45 Dareel Eric

Vihiga - Luanda MP, Chris Omulele has issued bursaries worth KES 15 million to students through the Constituency Development Fund.

The MP issued a further KES 1.2 million to Mumboha secondary and KES 1 million to Mumboha primary school for development purposes.

“On top of this, we have sponsored over 200 students who were joining Form One this year. We want to promote education through the few resources that we have,” said Omulele.

He spoke at Mumboha secondary school when he presided over handing over of the cheques and later led the groundbreaking of Mumboha stadium that is to be constructed at a cost of KES 7 million.

Omulele said the constituency’s target of constructing 270 classrooms by the end of this year through CDF at an estimated cost of Sh 108 million was on course.

“So far, we have constructed 160 classrooms spread across the constituency. Each school will benefit from construction of three classrooms. In schools that have good infrastructure, we will improve on it by rehabilitating classrooms to suit the modern types,” said Omulele.

He said this was in a bid to provide an ample learning environment for students and at the same time ease the burden of paying levies for construction of classes by parents.

He said the constituency decided to sponsor schools because of the dire need for education and poor state of classes the students were using.

The legislator said overall, the constituency will spend its 65 percent budget allocation on education in both primary and secondary schools, catering for development and bursaries.

Omulele observed CDF’s impact on the societal development cannot be underestimated as people were benefiting directly.

He further noted that 110 kilometres of road have been refurbished by CDF in the constituency.
