MP clashes with his rival over development record, Jubilee nominations

Nairobi - Kieni MP Kanini Kega was over the weekend confronted by his rival aspirant Njoroge Wainaina over development record of the area and Jubilee Party nominations.
Wainaina accused Kega of doing very little for the vast constituency since he was elected in 2013.
He accused the MP of concentrating much in national politics and forgetting about the grassroot electorates.
Wainaina also got fury when the MP asked him to cut his speech short because of time factor, vowing to continue pointing out faults in the MP’s leadership.
The two had graced a funds drive event for Kimunyuru Secondary School in Kieni West sub-county where more than KES.1 million was raised.
The businessman said the ongoing road construction projects, Mweiga-Brookside and Narumoru-Karichen roads, were initiated by former area MPs and not the incumbent.
“The road projects were started by former MPs including Chris Murungaru and Nemesius Warugongo. Give credit where it deserves,” said Wainaina.
He also claimed that he was rigged in 2013 TNA party nominations before ditching to GNU party.
In response, the MP who donated KES.50,000 cash and a CDF cheque of KES.650,000 lashed out at the businessman for donating KES.10,000 during the event.
He also vowed to support any of his rivals if he happens to loose in the Jubilee Party primaries.
“In 2013 I defeated by closest rival with more than 8,000 votes during party primaries and in voting I garnered more than 20,000 votes over him. I floored him squarely,” noted Kega.
The MP further said a lot of development projects have been initiated during his tenure while he blamed the Nyeri County Government for sidelining the constituency which forms half of the County.
He criticized Governor Nderitu Gachagua for declining to approve a KES.6.5 billion budget for financial 2016/17 that was passed by the County Assembly.
Kega claimed that the governor is evading his duties and is blaming other elected leaders in the County for his failures.
